Introduction
The Center for Health Management and Policy, Shandong University, was founded
in June, 2002. Its previous academic body was Department of Social Medicine
and Health Management, Shandong Medical University (1983-1996), Institute
of Social Medicine and Health Policy, Shandong Medical University (1997-2000),
and Institute of Social Medicine and Health Policy, Shandong University (2001-2002).
The center is one of the lead institutions in China focusing on research and training programmes of health economics, health policy analysis, and development of health management instruments. The center hosts the National Center for Health Economics and Policy (Ministry) and Center for Health Care Cost Accounting and Analysis (Ministry of Health). The effort of the center is to improve performance of Chinese health care system in terms of efficiency and equity through providing scientific evidence for policy making. Over the past two decades, the center has conducted 90 research projects, trained 80 graduate students, and provided consultancy services to a number of national and international projects.
The center has close working links with both Chinese and international organizations, including various departments of Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor and Social Security, Shandong Provincial Government, TDR/WHO, Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research, the World Bank, UNICEF, Harvard School of Public Health, Health Economics and Financing Program of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, International Health Division of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and IHCAR of Karolinska Institute.
