| Introduction
The Center for Health Management and Policy, Shandong University, was founded in June, 2002. Its previous academic body was Department of Social Medicine and Health Management, Shandong Medical University (1983-1996), and Institute of Social Medicine and Health Policy, Shandong Medical University (1997-2001). The center hosts the Key Lab of Health Economics and Policy, Ministry of Health and the Center for Cost Accounting and Analysis, Ministry of Health. The center is now one of the leading institutions in China on research and training of health economics, health management, and health policy. Vision and mission The vision of the center is to establish a domestic and international research and training base on health economics, health management, and health policy using the advantages of Shandong University with wide relevant disciplines of Management, Economics, Public Health, and Sociology. The missions of the center include： ■ Research Focusing the areas of social medicine, health management, health economics, and health policy. ■ Teaching Offering lectures to graduate students on social medicine, health management, health economics, health policy, hospital accounting, economic evaluation of health programs, and knowledge management. ■ Training Offering post graduate training programs for both master and PhD students; Offering non-degree training for health officials and managers. ■ Consultancy Offering consultancy services to both domestic and international health projects. International cooperation The center has established good working relationship with a number of overseas universities and organizations, including 1) Harvard School of Public Health through a joint research project on Chinese rural health; 2) IHCAR of Karolinska Institutet through training and research programs; 3) Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine through a EU research project on rural health financing study and a DFID project on TB; and 4) Health Economics and Financing Program at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine through two DFID research projects. |
